About Us

Our Mission

We are a team of students, parents, and mentors who work together to build a robot, teach business and engineering skills, and most importantly, have fun. Our mission is to combine the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology, providing a life-changing and educational experience for high-school students.

History

Our team meets in the Frederick V. Pankow Center and has existed since 2000. The team was originally named "GEARS" until 2010 when it disbanded. In 2012, the team reformed under the new name Rockem Sockem Robotics. Since then, we have continued to grow and thrive, thanks to the dedication of our members and the support of our mentors and community. Industry mentors coach the team, and occasionally, teachers join the team to provide additional support.

What is the FIRST Robotics Competition?

Under strict rules, limited time, and resources, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, market their team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a challenging yet fun field game against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteering professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. Each season culminates in an exciting FIRST Championship.
